Coach Mike Munchak confident of Tennessee Titans’ win chances vs Detroit Lions – NFL Preview
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has refused to budge to the two-game loss pressure, hoping the Titans bounce back strongly, and the team has an opportunity to do so in this Sunday’s (September 23) game versus the Detroit Lions.
Munchak led the Titans finish the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season at an impressive 9-7 record as compared with 6-10 a year earlier, but the 2012 season’s start at 0-2 is not the way the coach had anticipated. Yet he has shown determination not
to let the pair of losses dictate terms of the team’s future, he is very much confident of their victory chances.
He recently snubbed suggestions to replace first-year offence leader Jake Locker and running back Chris Johnson, and said the lost games were a team failure. Both players nevertheless have ended the initial couple of games below than even an average performance.
The coach, however, has refused to panic, and said:
"We're starting off not playing the way we thought we would so does that mean we panic? No definitely not. We have too much work ahead of us. There's too much football to be played yet."
Away from the coach’s optimism, the Titans’ record does not speak in their favour. The team has finished the two games while conceding a total of 72 points and scoring only 23. It is from a side that had almost ended up reaching playoffs, and fell short
of it only because of an unexpected development on the points table.
They will be definitely under pressure in their game against the Lions, but given the opposition has been struggling all along on their end, the hosts have a chance to register their first win of the season.
Detroit Lions had almost lost the season opener against the St. Louis Rams, but thanks to a touchdown in the closing minutes of the game they came out victorious. Against San Francisco 49ers, they could not sustain and lost.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford knows they are hit by woes of their own and has pinpointed them. He said:
"We didn't play our best game really in any phases. I'm proud of our guys for fighting and staying in there, but we've got to put some effort into coming out and trying to play a little bit better."
Also, the team has been hit by quite a few injury scares and can be affected to an extent in the game against the Titans. Yet the Titans should be wary of the opposition’s capability of putting a strong show on the field and while they seek to record first
win of the season they will have to fight for it throughout the game.
