Coach Mike Munchak defends Tennessee Titans’ effort to step up performance – NFL News
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has defended the team saying they have lately improved their performance, irrespective of the question that they are not winning.
Mike was reacting to reports that his future with the Titans was dependent on the team’s performance and in case of consistent failings he might lose his job.
Here an important and relevant point to the question is that owner Bud Adams has put all the coaches and officials from the front office on an informal notice to face scrutiny if the team’s performance does not improve.
Munchak said:
"That's not my worry or my decision. My job is to get these guys, we have to win football games. I get that. But I think it's all about, for me, is knowing that we're heading in the right direction. I feel we're doing that. I feel we're not getting the wins,
and I get that. And that's what I'll be judged on when it's all said and done."
He added:
"This is going to be a very good football team here. We're not showing it right now as far as our record goes. I feel you see enough stuff. "
The Titans are 4-9 in the season, at third spot in American Football Conference (AFC) South. Only the Jacksonville Jaguars who have two victories in the season are worse than them. With three more games to go there is no chance of securing a playoff berth
for them even if they win all three games.
Yet the coach is confident that they have improved in certain areas, and that lately their performance has remarkably improved. This is the time after the owner put them on notice, but during this entire period they have managed only a single win. Otherwise,
they have lost many games straight.
The coach did well last year after taking over the team as a coach for the first time. He helped them salvage their position from 6-10 a season earlier to 9-7 in 2011, and were just unlucky to have missed the playoffs. This year the expectations were even
higher but the team has performed worse than last year – much to the surprise of the owner and coach.
