Coach Mike Munchak sees New York Jets win as some consolation for Tennessee Titans – NFL News
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has admitted that past Sunday’s (Dec. 16) win over the New York Jets was a great sigh of relief for all coaches and officials.
Although Mike did not mention in clear terms, an obvious reference of his remarks was the context of warning that owner Bud Adams gave to all the officials about six weeks ago, threatening to scrutinise them if the team’s performance did not improve.
He said:
"So I think last night was just a feeling of relief. Playing hard and not always playing our best or making all the plays that were there, but hanging together for four quarters. It was interesting all the way to the end and win a football game. It's exactly
what we needed and helps to build on the next one."
It was first win for the Titans in a month, which came as a big surprise in perspective of the team’s performance over past couple of months. They lost many games straight.
The coach is pleased with the outcome of the game no matter how they played. He said the victory was important for them, and now they will try to consolidate their lead further by winning the remaining two games.
He said:
"We won is all that matters right now. We need to figure out for the next game how to build off of that. So you'd rather build off of at least we found a way to win a football game."
The Titans are facing the Green Bay Packers in the next game, and might not find the opposition as lenient as the Jets. A win against the Packers will be a remote possibility, and it appears the season might be over for them now.
Munchak realises the present position (5-9) is not convincing for the management and particularly for the owner, and they might face some cleansing and rebuilding at certain positions soon after end of the season. The owner has sounded to be very clear in
parting ways with some officials, while a number of players could possibly put on waivers as well.
