Coach Mike Tomlin to lead Pittsburgh Steelers future stars at training camp – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers will open their training camp later this month and for the first time head coach, Mike Tomlin, is leading a number of future stars to training and workout activities.
Although the coach has expressed great readiness to train and groom new players, some commentators believe the official faces a tough road ahead.
He has been riding on success of many veterans lately but this year the team has parted ways with a number of them to keep its players expense within the cap level.
Steelers are described to be in a face of transition from experience to youth, and the coach will need to work extra hard with what he calls future stars, given the team is dependent on them.
The team had made through to the playoffs last year but lost to the Denver Broncos in the first round with a clear score difference. It faces even harder road this year. They were unable to beat Ravens twice in the round and again face
the American Football Conference (AFC) rivals this year.
Ravens, however, are far better equipped this season. They have increased their strength and reliability on the offence as much as they used to do on their defence in all previous years. The credit to step up efforts on the offence goes
to Jim Caldwell, former Indianapolis Colts head coach, who is the new quarterbacks coach at Ravens.
Another major change at Steelers this year is their own offence. Since arrival of the new offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, the team has been gradually moving away from the previous offence approach of being pass-happy.
The new coach has focused more on the running game and the role of quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, will be important to the overall output of the offence.
So far, the player has spoken of his frustration about learning the new offence of Todd, and if the situation turns out to be a similar one at the training camp, Steelers might face some difficulties in adjusting to the new offence strategy.
Haley himself is optimistic about the players’ abilities to pick his new offence lessons. The team can only hope it turns out to be in their best interest and results. The situation might turn out be drastic one, otherwise.
