Coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 terms lack of self-belief as key reason behind West Indies’ inconsistent batting
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 coach, Ottis Gibson, cited lack of self-confidence as the prime reason behind his team’s not-so-impressive batting performance in the recent Test series against Pakistan.
Gibson believed that Windies have a huge bunch of talent in their ranks and just need to create self-belief in them in order to produce good results at international level.
After sealing an emphatic victory in the first Test, the Caribbean side lost its way and suffered a humiliating 196-run defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the second match.
Only two West Indian batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804, scored a half-century each in the two-match series, finished a couple days ago. The visitors, on the other hand, notched a couple of centuries plus five fifties in the series and the West Indian
coach acknowledged that scoring big innings was the key difference between the two sides.
Gibson expressed complete satisfaction over the bowling performance of the team but admitted that the batsmen failed to perform when it mattered the most.
"We just need now for our batters to start to have a little bit more belief in themselves when they are out in the middle, especially against the spinners. We looked very at home against the seamers and the fast men but against the spinners, especially (Saeed)
Ajmal, we weren't able to have enough self-belief to try and attack a little bit more," Gibson said.
The coach further described that he has been trying his best to infuse a positive attitude in the players but it all depends on them how they take things in future.
"It's difficult. You're constantly reminding people of good things they've done in the past and encouraging them to go and watch footage of them scoring hundreds and double hundreds," the coach added.
West Indian side is scheduled to play three-match Test series against India next month following their five One-day series, starting from June 6, 2011.
Terming upcoming series against World’s No.1 side as the real test of team’s abilities, Gibson made it clear that he and his team are wary of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s dangerous bowling attack and visitors should not take them lightly.
