Coach Pat Shurmur admits winless effort in Cleveland Browns 14-24 loss to Buffalo Bills
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur has admitted they were no match to efforts of Buffalo Bills offensive line led from the front by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to beat the hosts 24-14 on Sunday (September 23) who are yet clueless about first win of the
season.
QB Brandon Weeden although put up some impressive numbers as far as the total yards are concerned, was intercepted twice in the game which still reflects on the problems the rookie has been facing since the start of the season.
He completed 27 out of 43 passes for 237 yards. The QB also threw a touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Travis Benjamin but could not produce the matching-winning performance. He nevertheless looked quite improved player in comparison with previous two
games of the season.
Pat said of the team’s effort:
"We just didn't get it done. There are no magical answers. We just didn't get it done."
Apparently, he is as much clueless as any other member of Browns’ organisation when the team’s first win will come by and the delay is not helping his cause in front of new Browns’ owner Jimmy Haslam.
Rookie running back Trent Richardson was limited to only 27 yards on the back of 12 caries after having recorded 100 yards in the last game. So his sluggish output at the end did not help the win chances of struggling Browns.
Bills quarterback Ryan single-handedly helped the home side inflict another wound to the injured Browns who with the loss have extended their winless drought to nine consecutive games stemming out from the last season.
Ryan’s performance was much a relief for the Bills after they quickly lost running back C.J. Spiller to a shoulder injury. He had been leading the league in total yards rushed with the record of 292 yards.
Fitzpatrick finished with 22 out of total 35 passes for 208 yards to help the Bills end their eight-game losing streak on road.
He said:
"We got the monkey off our back. We always felt confident. This is a new year, a new team, but it was a good team win on the road. These are the most satisfying wins."
In his post-game remarks, coach Chan Gailey said he is hopeful of Spiller’s comeback in the next game but was unable to specify his situation because of awaited scans tests.
According to the coach:
"I don't believe it's long, long-term. If he missed a week that's long for me. He's going to be out for sure this week and then we'll see."
The player was yet to undergo further tests until filing of this report and the results will determine a possible timeline for his return to action. He may well be out of the Bills’ next game versus the New England Patriots next weekend.
