Coach Pat Shurmur boasts Cleveland Browns to pose tough challenge to Philadelphia Eagles
Coach Pat Shurmur is hopeful of Cleveland Browns’ offence helping their cause for a win over the visiting Philadelphia Eagles who are heading into the regular season with a hundred percent record in the preseason phase.
The Browns are embarking upon a new beginning with new offence leader quarterback Brandon Weeden and new owner Jimmy Haslam, who is waiting for his one billion dollar Browns’ deal to pass through regulatory hurdles successfully.
It was a shaky start to the preseason made by the team, maintaining the record of two wins and two losses, with the first appearance of the new quarterback Brandon, who was not as impressive as the coach might have expected. He nevertheless remains crucial
to the team’s hopes of better performance this season.
Stakes are higher for all coaches and officials of the team, probably more than the players, given they have to convince the new owner to raise the possibility of being retained. A majority of them otherwise stand losing their employment under Jimmy’s tenure.
While putting his bets on Brandon, the coach hopes him to be new saviour of their cause. He said:
"We've added some weapons to our offense. I'm very confident that we're going to be better in terms of scoring points. I just am, I believe it."
The Browns finished last season with four wins and massive 12 losses and the second-year coach is under pressure to produce better results this time. It is also a testing time for Brandon, who has been given preference over incumbent Colt McCoy. Colt himself
has just survived the scare of being traded off to another league side.
So while McCoy has nothing much to lose as a backup, all pressure is diverted on Brandon to prove his credentials as a leader. It was not a good start for the rookie in the preseason as he had been seen struggling to cope with some issues. He was in serious
difficulties to work them out once and for all amid very little help from the team coaches.
Although he remains upbeat about his success chances in the pro environment, it will be seen how he remains up to the expectations of doing well in the season. The good news for Weeden is that running back Trent Richardson has returned to practice and can
be expected anytime into the final selection of the squad. So with him on the offensive line, the Browns might be on the course of thrashing the Eagles.
The Eagles are clearly ahead of the Browns in Super Bowl title contention and a welcome victory over the Browns to start the season will no doubt serve their cause in the longer run. It is to be seen if they are stopped by the Browns.
