Coach Pat Shurmur defends Cleveland Browns improvement, warily thinks of future – NFL News
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur has warily admitted that he has just started thinking about his future after Pittsburgh Steelers’ final game of the season, although he refuted an impression that he is worried about what awaits him ahead.
Pat as usual insisted he is focused on the game to help the team inflict another defeat on the Steelers this season and then he will see what goes on from there.
He said:
"Listen, I get this. My concerns are for my team and making sure that we do all the right things during the game to give our guys the best chance to win. That's where I'm at. At some point after that, I'll begin to think about what goes on from there. I'm
not worried about it."
During a press conference, the coach was specifically asked about the progress the Browns have made under his reign as a head coach, and he nodded optimistically. He said they have done enough work in terms of inspiring the players to improve, although,
he conceded, many will disagree to him.
Shurmur added:
"I think we've made improvements. Some may say not fast enough, but I think we've made improvements. I think we came into a less than ideal situation when we got here.”
The Browns are with 5-10 points on the league’s standings chart, and if they pull off another win against the Steelers, they stand a chance to finish the season at 6-10. The record will be two points better than last season’s finish of 4-12, and probably
this is where Shurmur has drawn attention of media and commentators to.
It all depends on the Steelers’ game now. Although the Browns have beaten them in the previous game of the season, they were without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger then. Also, they were on the field with a few more serious injuries.
Now the Steelers are with their maximum squad strength in spite of some injuries still on the list. QB Ben nevertheless is back in the side and fit, and it is a daunting task for the Browns now to beat them.
Pat Shurmur is optimistic about their chances, and he knows a win is important for their record.
