Coach Sean Foley working hard on Tiger Woods’ swing before Masters – PGA Tour News
Woods is currently in the process of changing his swing; he has already made many amendments and the results are slowly starting to show.
The former World no.1 has been in the critics’ spotlight since his extra-marital affairs were disclosed by the media two years back in a dramatic fashion. Woods made a comeback to the golfing arena in the PGA Tour in April 2010, after a five-month hiatus, where he finished tied for the fourth spot.
Sean Foley has been with Woods since the past one year and has helped him throughout his bad patches. The 36-year old from Canada has worked with the likes of Rose and Hunter Mahan; he took on the task of coaching the world’s most famous golfer knowing he will be under a lot of scrutiny.
The Canadian coach in his recent interview said, "When I started with Tiger, I didn't think it would be a month and then he'd kill everyone. Remember, I got him right after Akron, the low point of his professional career. It is always difficult to coach a top ranked player like Woods and especially when the player is making a comeback to the arena."
Before Foley, Hank Haney served as Woods’s coach; they proved to be a good pair as Woods won six major championships and 31 PGA Tour titles during that period.
As such, the pressure on Foley to deliver is immense. Butch Harmon who has trained major winners like Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els has been all praise for Foley; Harmon admitted that it is not easy to take up a player in a difficult situation.
Last year in WGC-Bridgestone, Woods was nowhere among the top ten; he had the worst finish and was tied for a disappointing 78th spot. Woods has since, shown signs of returning to success.
In Woods last outing in a four day championship, Foley was working hard with him on the practice range; they were looking at different angles of the swing and it did wonders for him.
Woods carded a final round of six-under par, 66 in last week’s WGC-Cadillac championship and finished among the top ten on the leader board. He is now confident of making a comeback by winning his fifth Masters title.
