Coach Tan Kim Her says team work in coaching set up can bring productive results – Badminton news
Tan Kim Her, the chief coach of Malaysia in Doubles category, expressed that only team work in a coaching set up can produce better results for shuttlers. He wants to end the old system of a one-man show in the coaching field and insists that all coaches
should work together for producing convincing results.
The chief coach welcomed the decision of hiring Yoo Yong Sung of Korea as a coach for Men’s Doubles category. Kim Her wants the Korean to assist Pang Cheh Chang to improve the skills of national shuttlers and World Number Five, Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien
Keat, for getting good results at the 2012 London Olympics.
In the past, it has been observed that there was no team work among the coaching staff and only one person dominated all decisions associated with the particular category. Kim Her wants to change this practice for getting productive results as two heads
are always better than one.
Kim Her said, “I believe successful coaching depends on team work and collective efforts. I do not want the coaching job here to be turned into a one-man show. We are doing away with the old system and starting anew. We do not want to hold one person responsible
for the success or failure of a player but it will fall back on the team of coaches.”
While talking about the new addition of Yong Sung in the Doubles’ coaching squad, Kim Her expressed that he is optimistic regarding the work of the Korean as he has a personal experience of working in South Korea and knows that they are dedicated professionals.
Kim Her added, “We want the coaches to come together to analyse the players’ performances. It will be about sharing resources and knowledge.”
However, the chief coach also wants shuttlers to change their behaviour and start thinking on their flaws, as the coach can do nothing if shuttlers do not show commitment and dedication in the learning process during their training sessions.
