I am on the Freshman volleyball team at my high school, and i have never played volleyball before, but busted my butt to get on the team. We'ce had about 4 games and a tournament so far, and I've only been played once, at the end of a match, when they knew I couldn't s***w things up. I try most of the time at practice, but my serve and pass are not consistent. How can I get more playing time?

  1. Based on what you described it is all normal.

Keep working hard on your consistency and you will be the Rookie of the Year.

  2. ok trust me i totally know how you feel. i'm freshman and on the jv team. I'm not that bad and have been playing for three years, but i am always benched. Usually on a jv team the sophmores get way more play time then freshman and first timers.

its a pain in the *** but its true you gotta wait and no matter what keep trying in practice cuz you never know later in the season you may play more, or at least the coach will know you are a hard worker (good for next year) Don't give up or all your hard work will go down the drain (trust me)

  3. It sounds like you go to my highschool. Live in FL?  If your coach doesn't see that you're working hard, then there's not much else you can do besides work hard. She has to play the best players because she wants to win and have fun. If you know you're rusty on some skills, go directly to her and ask " Coach, I know my ____ and ____ (whatever skills you need help on, in this case serves and passes) aren't as good as they can be. I want to be invovled in games more and have a little more playing time so what can I do to work on those skills to get better for the team?" If you do that, it puts you in front of her/his face. It shows them you WANT to get better and are really trying. Once they tell you what to do, do it. Work as hard as possible. I am sure they'll pay a little more attention just for the reason of you standing up and saying yuo want to be better and play for them in games. Good luck with it, you're a freshman, plenty of time =]

  4. I am worried about your statement "I try most of the time at practice."

You need to hustle all the time in practice.  You need to run to get water.  You need to listen to the coach all the time.  If the coach corrects you, your answer is "thank you, I will work on that" and mean it.  Try to get to practice early and stay late.

Since you are not getting into the games, you have to show the coach during practice.

  5. To get  more time I think you should get a little more practice time in.  [[like on weekends or after school]]  But I really think thats not very fair.. even though you have never played before you were obviously good enough for your coach to put you on the team..

I guess just show your coach in practice that you have earned your spot on the team and deserve some time on the court..

It may be because of the tournement that you didnt get to play because can be really big deals..

That was very rude that they put you in at that time..

If your passing isnt consistant try turning your feet and getting under the ball.. Always go for the setter hotspot..[[what we call it on my team]]

And serving is easy once you get the hang of it.  Depending on how you serve it could be as easy as step, throw, hit.

But for over hand it is really important to get power behind the ball.  Just step forward, throw the ball in the air, and hit it for all your worth. okay??

I really hoped I helped in someway.. Good Luck this season!!!

  6. i just made the team at my middle school its also my first time playin but tomorrow is our 3rd game and last week our coach says how we hustle during practice and do in practice will determine if we play alot or wat cuz for the first 2 games she basically played all the 8th grade returners since thier mor experienced but keep trying and then maybe u will get more playing time
