Coach of Salford Reds Matt Parish warns his side
Matt Parish, the coach of the Salford Reds has given a warning to his outfit prior to their battle against the Huddersfield Giants, on Friday.
Parrish was angered to see his side lost 18-52 to the Wigan Warriors which had completely killed their hopes of booking their play-off spot ahead.
Parish told his squad that they have to make the most of what is available to them as there is no magic existing to improve on their current scenario. He explained to his players that this is the only way out of this situation and it needs to be understood
by them all.
While speaking about it he mentioned that it shows that how distant they are from their ultimate goal and what is required of them in order to improve.
He added, “There’s no magic wand, there’s no troops coming back, we’re working with what we’ve got.”
According to Reds’ coach, Wigan definitely displayed a much better game in comparison to theirs.
About Wigans’ game, he added, “Wigan ran harder, they tackled harder, just did everything harder. They looked pretty good, but we made them look pretty good. Our effort to defend our try line was absolutely non-existent. You just can’t accept teams getting
in your 20m area and scoring a try every time they get there – it doesn’t matter who you’re playing.”
He reckons that the Wigans were strong in their game but only because his outfit was weak along the defence line and created opportunities for them which they were splendid at capturing. He pointed out that his squad let the opponents within the 20m of their
side, which is where his side largely faltered.
He said that the “goal-line” defence was really loose, as the opportunities were not materialised perfectly due to lack of synchronisation within the players, which cannot be gained unless you have the want to snatch the victory from the jaws of opponents.
He also said that during training players are made to work on their loose ends, but for that too there needs to be some determination available within the players.
Amidst this all, Sean Long is soon to join the coaching staff at the Reds in lieu of his injury-prone two years at Hull FC, which led to his retirement decision.
Long is excited to be part of a brand new chapter in his life which is different as he is going to bid farewell to his playing career but will assume the responsibility as Reds coach.
With this decision taken, Long will not be entirely forgoing the rugby league and is keyed up about his new role in the same old game. He will be shifted to the new home, Barton next season along with the remaining coaching staff at Reds.
