Coaches’ insight on the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup – Volleyball news
The 2011 U-18 Girls’ Pan American Volleyball Cup got a green light on Sunday, July 3. The well-arranged Baja California High Performance Centre in Tijuana, Mexico received participating teams from following eight countries.

The Mexican City Tijuana has great tradition of hosting FIVB and NORCECA Volleyball events. Once again, Tijuana has got this opportunity to serve as host of the U-18 Girls’ Pan American Cup from July 3-8. The tournament has a sole purpose to promote the
challenging sport of volleyball among youth. The fans are encouraged to come and appreciate the effort of players. There is no fee for fans to attend the matches.
The mentors of the participating teams expressed their views before the official opening of tournament on 3rd July.
Guillermo Caceres is attached as head coach with Argentinean girls. He stated that this tournament is of extreme significance as it will perfectly serve as preparation for the upcoming U-18 World Championship, which is set to take place from August 12-21
in Turkey. Italian Raggio is heading the Chilean squad and he also has an ambition to do well at the Pan Am Cup.
He said, “We have come here to play good matches against great teams like Argentina or Mexico, as well as to get a good result against Costa Rica. Our team has very young athletes and they are living their first International experience.”
Costa Rican Team has Martin Rodriguez as head coach, who has assembled a team of young players. He stated that his team is here to learn and develop their abilities. Central American Championship is next big thing on Rodriguez’s mind.
Same is the case with Dominican Republic as most of the team is composed of young and inexperienced players. The Coach Wilson Sanchez expressed hope that his side can make a difference by relying on Libero Winnifer Fernandez and Brayelin Martinez.
Sady Lopez, the Head Coach of El Salvador seemed all aware of the risks in U-18 Pan American Cup.
She said, “Our expectations are focused on participation. We know that we are going to face teams with a higher level. But we have the desire to do our best for our country with some of the girls who came here last year to another tournament.”
The mentor of home team Mexico, Victor Garcia expressed faith in his team-line. He said Mexico has done well in the previous U-20 tournament in Peru. Garcia strongly believes that the enthusiastic group of Mexican players will surely strive for the top position
of the tournament.
Peruvian coach Manuel Artieda said that U-18 Pan Am Cup is great opportunity for players to hone their skills and to gain more knowledge of the game. Erik Gonzales of Puerto Rico said this competition will be great for preparation.
