Question:

Coaching Tennis?

I am starting to teach my friend tennis and this is the first time ive taught anyone. He is having a problem that i am not sure how to fix. Whenever he hits a forehand, it goes over the net only maybe 10% of the time. When it does go over, maybe 5 % of the time it hits the singles area. What can i do to teach him a better topspin forehand? Also, how do i teach a backhand? I am pretty bad at the backhand topspin so i always use backhand slice. I dont know what or how to teach him backhand either. He got the serve down pretty quickly.

  1. Recommend him to a tennis pro.

If his forehands go over the net 10 percent of the time, theres some seriously flawed technique you should be able to spot. No offence, but if you can't see what hes doing wrong, you might not be the best coach for a begginer.

As for a topsin backhand, if you use a 1hbh, keep wrists firm and knees bent to get under the ball, then brush up.

  2. forehand- make sure he brings top tip of the racket below the ball before contact and swings up on it. This should generate spin to bring the ball back down into the court and should aim high over the net.

backhand- alot of it is wrists. make sure u step into the court and vigorously flip the wrists over to create spin and power.

    Hope this helped!
