Coaching is a different ball game, says Sandeep Patil – Cricket News Update
Former Indian batsman and incumbent Director Operations at National Cricket Academy (NCA), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sandeep-Madhusudan-Patil-c88494, claims that coaching stands apart from other managerial fields in terms of techniques, methods and skills.
Patil, who is currently conducting a Level ‘A’ coaching programme for First-Class cricketers from Nagpur, opines that coaching is an entirely different profession which requires some specific methodologies.
The ex-cricketer has applauded the NCA for holding coaching courses to equip the domestic players with professional cricketing skills that are necessary to be learnt to survive in a competitive environment. He has also hailed the efforts of the former Indian
cricketers who are actively taking part in the training camps to share their knowledge and experiences with the youngsters.
Talking to the media today, Patil said, “What I did in the last 23 years as a coach and what I have been doing in the last two years as a director cricket operation is totally different. NCA has got fantastic facilities and infrastructure and these players
- some of whom are still playing - will only improve after these course.”
He further told, “No matter how great a player you are, you have to start from zero once you enter into coaching. The methods; the knowledge; the managerial skills; there's so much to learn through these courses. So these former players can help their respective
state teams and junior boys.”
Patil believes that coaching courses will help emerging players polish their talent and embellish their skills. He also predicts that the well-trained youngsters will prove to be precious assets for Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 which heavily relies on the NCA for new recruits.
Based in Bangalore, the NCA is regarded as one of the best cricket academies of the world. It has produced a number of quality and world class players. Moreover, it contains a well-structured rehabilitation centre where the injured and unfit cricketers recover
in the supervision of specialised doctors and health experts.
Patil has been working with the NCA since the last couple of years. The 55-year-old played 29 Test and 45 ODI matches from 1980 to 1986, scoring 1588 and 1005 runs respectively. He has also worked as a coach with different domestic teams.
