Liverpool midfielder, Conor Coady, thinks he needs to go a long way before staking his claim in the Reds starting line-up, and has set http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and Joe Allen as his role models.
The 19-year old fulfilled his childhood ambition last week, making his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 debut against Anzhi Makhachkala in a 1-0 defeat at Lokomotiv Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers, who has been made to work with a slim squad since taking over the Anfield throne back in June, has introduced scores of academy players in the professional circuit. The Ulsterman has created a sense of hope amongst the youngsters who are
viewing the manager’s policy as an opportunity for them to push up into the senior team. Coady is also one of them.
The juvenile midfielder, who can also be stationed in a defensive role, wants to catch the fast lane towards the first-team slot. However, he was wary of the fact that he needs to improve his game by a couple of notches, as the competition in the squad for
a place in the team was now tougher than ever.
“I think I need to work on the speed of my play. I need to be able to play quicker and to play two-touch football. In the position I play you have to do that quite a lot,” he told the club’s official website.
“If you look at the players we have in the first team now in my position, you're talking about the likes of Gerrard and Allen and they are very quick on the ball. They know where the ball is going to break before it does.”
Apart from Coady, Raheem Sterling, Suso and Andre Wisdom are other youngsters who have come into prominence this campaign.
Speaking of his debut game against Anzhi last Thursday, the talented playmaker admitted that he had not envisaged making his debut some 1600 miles away from Merseyside.
Nonetheless, he stated that it was the best night of his career and he didn’t care too much that it did not occur at Anfield.
Coady is expected to feature just in the Europa League games for now. He will need to convince Brendan Rodgers to deploy him in the EPL action as well by coming up with strong performances in the second-tier European event.
