Question:

Coast guards views on ADD

I was checked for ADD 8 months ago results came up borderline and doctor said I have some qualities of someone with ADD and some I dont. I told the pyschologist about my interest in the coast guard and he said that was a great idea and there was nothing that should stop me from doing that and he discontinued me from seeing him. I filled out my medical prescreen saying I do not have ADD/ seen a pyschologist and now I got results back saying his impression of me was ADD. Now I have lied on my medical prescreen what should I do? Am i going to get DQ'd to join? I have never been on any meds nor do i feel the need to be on them. Any advice?

  1. You've asked a similar question on here before.  Instead of soliciting a lot of uninformed opinions, you need to talk to your recruiter and explain what you have going on.

  2. In order to gain entry into the armed forces with a history of ADD, you must show documented good academic or job performance for the one year period prior to enlistment and that one year period must be free of the use of medications. The source below is the medical standard.

I would get another medical opinion about your condition. There are too many cases of ADD being diagnosed in a "shot gun" approach when dealing with health problems. A psychologist is not a doctor of medicine. That is a simple fact.

  3. Go back to the Recruiter's office and have him help fill out the forms. That's what he's pay to do.

  4. ADD is a made up "disorder". You are a little hyper, hard to pay attention in history class, think about girls when you should be thinking about something else? Everybody does that. The doc just wants to keep seeing you and your insurance money, and the drug companies just want to keep seeing you and your insurance money. Forget it, it's not a problem. h**l, I'm borderline retarded sometimes, and I did 4 years in the Marines.

  5. First of all the civilian guy said you do not have ADD and that is why you answered the way you did. Borderline is borderline and it depends which side of the line you are standing on. Appeal his decision if they DQ you. You have the right. You did not lie you just told what the first Doc told you. got that?

US Coast Guard, you have to go out they never said you have to come back!
