Coat drive (in the summer)?

Hey I just thought of an idea. The homeless shelter people ahave next to nothing. I saw this up close when I went there to deliever a bunch of toys for the playroom (my friend and I had a combinded birthday party and invited 300 people and asked for donations to charities instead of birthday gifts). I decided that I wanted to do more for them and my town. Do you think running a coat drive all year round would be good? Because I know so many parents throw there kids winter coats away or to Goodwill during the summer/spring because nobody has a coat drive. I'd make it really easy to drop them off. I would have bins at grocery stores, schools, library, post office, etc. That would make it easier for people to drop it off there. Does that sound good? Would you bring your child(ren)'s coat(s) here?

  1. coat drive all year round sounds perfect! it could help because  there is often a shortage for people when they really need them. I would definitely bring coats to these locations, especially if I knew about it... make sure the boxes are in a good place, if not, ask if you can put up flyers to advertise... where would you distribute them? would you give them to the homeless shelter? Your charitable spirit is admired.

As for charitable birthday parties - I think it's a good concept, but not everyone can afford to buy gifts and it puts people on the spot to spend more than they probably would on a gift to show how "charitable" they are, I understand the concept, but it's a bit obligatory - I guess they could just RSVP a no if they couldn't go... I would definitely find a different charity event to hold annually, get creative - put together a fun auction of some sorts - monthly Bunco for chartiy - you can have door prizes and another prize for the winner???

obviously this link is for a person on a budget, but it could bring in great money....

tea parties are also great... http://www.nspcc.org.uk/GetInvolved/Rais...

a great source to get ideas to raise money for your charity is: http://www.charitybenefits.com/

it's a source of different charities already set up, but a great source of ideas for you to be the chair of your own charity fund raiser....

    bless your charitable spirit!!!!!!

    13?!?!?!!

    THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!!!!

BIRTHDAY PARTIES ARE GREAT IDEAS WHAT A WONDERFUL YOUNG WOMAN YOU ARE!!! YOUR HEART IS SO BIG AND YOU ARE WISE BEYOND YOUR YEARS!!!!!! GOOD FOR YOU! GOD BLESS!

  2. Yes that is a good idea. Not only will it raise more coats since there's more time to collect them but, there at very convenient locations! Yes I would bring them there.

  3. This is an EXCELLENT idea! There have been so many times, when I'm cleaning out the kids' closets, when I have wondered what to do with their coats. Kids grow so fast, so I am constantly getting rid of old clothes. If you were in my area, I would definitely donate.

Another good idea is to make a website. Maybe call it "Coats for Kids". Could you imagine how many kids would be happy when winter comes around? I wish more people were as concerned about these issues. Good job!

  4. i think thats a great idea!
