Question:

Cobra L4VM vs Cleveland Hibore XL (gold shaft)?

Any thoughts? I hit both, love how hot the ball comes off the Cleveland Hibore. Like the Cobra but the sound is tough to get used to.

Cobra seems to fly off higher but far, Cleveland seems to rocket off straighter and same distance (maybe less for me).

What's your thoughts?

  1. I can't tell which of the two clubs I would like better, I have never hit either one. The main thing is that you feel comfortable with the driver you choose. If they fly about the same distance and one is straighter that would most likely be your safest bet. Straighter off the tee will give you more confidence when it is time to pull it out of the bag.

One of my biggest mistakes came when I purchased a new set of irons. I bought the ones that went the furthest, because ME HIT BALL LONG WAY! I was torn between irons that went straight and about a club shorter versus more distance and a little less control. After playing the longer irons for a couple years, I picked up a used set of the shorter straighter irons I passed on.

The key is to pick the one that feels best to you based on the type of game you want to play. If they both go the same distance and direction, then judge it on the way impact feels to you, which club looks better to your eye, the type of ball flight (both height and workablility) and sound of impact.

  2. More people have had more success with the Cobra.

  3. I have the Cleveland with the red shaft and I love that club. This is the only club I could ever draw and fade the ball when I wanted to, but it's to loud for me, the new HiBore XLS is supposed to be quieter with its composite construction.    The only time that I mis-hit is when I swing my hips to far though the swing, which is a hapit I'm trying to lose.  I've never hit the L4V driver, but every other club in my bag is a Cobra.  When I've hit my grandpa's Cobra Speed driver that club gave awesome results as well.  The L4V is one of Cobra's higher end drivers, the Speed series of drivers are in the same category as the HiBore XL, I would put the HiBore XLS in the same category as the L4V.
