Cobra hl200

Question

i just bought a cobra hl200-p it says 6 mile range but when were about to test it only 50ft we cannot transmit anymore when we try to set in a max range we waited for the 2 beeps after that we only hear a loud static.. what should i do to solve the static proble and how can i maximize the 6 mile range?tnx i only had 2days warranty hoping for your reply ASAP..tnx
