Cocaine vs Police officer

Question

Alright , I'm seventeen years old and i've always wanted to become a police officer , I have good grades & lots of volunteer work under my belt.

I have smoked weed maybe once a week with my friends but am not doing it as much now , I tried The drug extacy Once & Also tried cocaine once . Has this screwed up my chances completly on becoming a cop?

In most cases, it's not what you tell them, it's what you DON'T tell them. If you're honest and your drug test backs up your story, you should be fine.

Most departments have 7 - 10 year exclusion periods for drug use.  Meaning that if you have used certain drugs within 7 -10 years of applying you are automatically disqualified.

Actually the drug policys for the Police or Sheriff depts is  no cocaine use for the past 7 years and marijuana for the last 2 years from getting hired.

The fact that you state that you are not doing marihuana much right now indicates you are still doing it, which would raise some serious concerns as far as any police recruiter.  It shows that you are not 100% dedicated to becoming a police officer, as if you "have always wanted to become a police officer" you would not be committing offences!

That being said, if you stop today, and maintain a healthy/balanced lifestyle which includes education/community service work, etc, you should be able to salvage the situation once the amount of time has elapsed that whatever police service you apply to requires for abstinence from drugs.

you better stop since if you really want to be a police officer.  If you continue you'll never get into the academy since you will fail the drug test.  in addition if you make it, random drug tests are part of everyday life as an officer...../

You will have to pass a lie detector test, and this will probably come up in that test.
