  1. Are there any scratches? Is there any blood? How is the bird behaving? If there is no damage, he'll be fine...tails grow back (mostly). Now, how are you going to keep the bird safe from the cat? You were lucky this time...next time, maybe not. Good luck! kjl

  2. The things that may cause him to not be okay would be

    1) if a feather was broken but not pulled out and he is bleeding.  In this case, the quill needs to be pulled out at the base using tweezers and then apply pressure.  If there are a lot of broken, bleeding feathers, the bird needs to see a vet asap because blood loss can be fatal.

    2) if the cat punctured the bird anywhere else with teeth or claws.  Cats bites are notorious for getting infected.  Both their teeth and claws contain a multitude of dangerous bacteria so if there is any chance of puncture, the bird needs to be on antibiotics.

    3) if the bird is overly stressed out it may die of shock.  You should keep it as quiet and comfortable as possible.  In its cage, in a dimly lit area with few distractions so it can recuperate from the fear.

  3. your cokateil will be fine as long as your cat didn't peirce its skin.

  4. If he's not bleeding, put him back in his cage and cover it.  Leave him alone for 24 hours.

Stress (and attacks are stressful) are dangerous for birds.  They can have heart attacks and die just from stress.

His tail feathers will come back when he molts.  They don't grow continuously like dog fur. (In case you were wondering)

  5. It should be fine but just in case you should take it to the vet.  Good luck and I hope your cockatiel is OK!

  6. Are the missing tail feathers the only injury to the bird?  If this is the case then the feathers should regrow fully in about a month.  Do look over the bird for other injuries because the bacteria cats carry around can be fatal to birds.  If you do find anywhere the skin is broken, get to an avian vet as soon as you can.

  7. Give him the time the features should grow back it could take time do.
