Cockatiel, Lovebird, or Parrotlet? Which is best for my situation?

I have been a bird lover since age 8. In my life i have had two budgies and now that my second one has died, i have found myself bird-less. So now i am looking to get another bird but decided to step up from Budgies and try a new breed. At first i thought Cockatiels since i heard a lot of good things about them. Then i started looking at Lovebirds since they are adorable and have a nice song. The only thing is that alot of people say its better to have a pair of them instead of just one, and personally i just want one bird to bond with. Then today i learned about Parrotlets and am thinking that they might be a nice fit to my personality. Mainly i am looking for a bird who will be happy to sit on my shoulder as i type on the computer or sit and watch tv. Cost is also a matter though and i know how much Lovebird and Cockatiels cost, but i am unsure about parrotlets. Also, are parrotlets easy to find or are they rare and have to be bought by a breeder? Thanks in advance!

  1. i would recommend lovebirds they do fine on there own i have one and he is perfect  they are cute  and not that noisey they are really great

  2. Parrotlets are available at pet shops, and also from breeders. They are probably the quietest of all three birds you are considering, and are good for people who live in apartments. For a green Parrotlet, expect to spend around $75 - $125 US dollars.  There are blue, yellow and white Parrotlets that generally cost more than the wild colored green.  Male Parrotlets can learn to say a few words too.  They can be feisty, are acrobatic and can be taught simple tricks.

Cockatiels are known to be very mellow birds and are a great bird to own after owning budgies.  This is an excellent choice.  Good luck to you!

  3. I reckon a hand-raised lovebird or a linny (lineolated parakeet). Both very sweet, confiding, relatively quiet (as far as parrots go), and content to just chill out with you while you watch Tv, linnies especially. Not sure about lovebirds but linnies can be good speakers!

  4. cocatails they are defanety fun i have 1 but getit as a baby or get a trained 1  even thogh there ugly when there babys   =p
