Cockatiel Handling Advice!?

i gt a young hand reared cockatiel about 4-5 weeks ago and i have been handling him lots each day but there seems to be no improvement. i sometimes put him on my shoulder. i sometimes stroke him on his back and imake him step up and i also talk to him heaps.

what else should i do?

  1. I have had hand-raised and hand-feed cockatiels.  They are awesome pets.  My advice to you is to just give him/her more time. It may not be as hand-raised as the seller lets on to believe.  When I had mine I was like their mommy, so I would assume it to say that they weren't exactly hand-raised.  Just give it time and keep doing what you're doing.  If you want to teach it to speak, just keep speaking the same word or phrase over and over to him/her.  I use to leave the door of the cage open (with a big ladder cause I use to clipped the wings)and they would come out of their room and greet me when I came home.  They would go so far as to eat potato chips right out of my mouth.  GREAT PETS!!! And loyal.


  2. Try to get him to take treats out of your hand. That's how I gained my hamster's trust. And since I gave him treats, he adores my hand!
