Our Cockatiel Moss, is 3-4 years old. He is a normal gray, male. My family bought him last December, along with his brother, Brady. I started training him to get on my finger today, and it went okay, but not very well. He was really scared, even though I talked to him soothingly and let him come out of the cage all by himself. He hadn't flown since December until now, since the cage is really small and he can't fly. we trained him for about an hour.

Well, today when I attempted to put him back into the cage, he wouldn't let me, since he kept biting and flying away. so, I took a small hand towel, put on a gloves, and grabed him fast, but not roughly. He tried to get away, but I put him into the big cage door, and let him out. I made sure not to squeeze him too hard i think too. But as soon as he was free, he hopped down, and then he stood there and started sneezing. =( I was really worried and tried to see what the matter was. then he stood still and i picked him up. what's going on?!

  1. don't worry. i have a cockatiel too and he does that sometimes. he enjoyed getting out. you said the cage is small so he probably likes getting out of it. it's ok that you picked him up with gloves and a towel, but he might not be used to it so he could've gotten frightened. if he keeps acting really strange to the point where you think something is wrong, tell your mom or dad. everything should be fine though. i think he just got scared.

  2. Sounds like he was just scared.  If he hasn't flown in a long time I would think his wings are probably a little sore from  flying about. (Kind of like if you'd not done any running in a long time then decided to go out and run a good distance).  Give him a little time to rest and he'll be fine.

  3. take him to the vet.

  4. Sounds like he enjoyed being out.  Birds need their exercise, that is why they say to get a cage big enough for them to fly or to let them out for their exercise.  He is probably fine, just sad he is back in the cage.  If you didn't hurt him, which it doesn't sound like you did.  Just watch him a bit and try it again.
