My male cockatiel has a cold and the vet recommended Erythromycin (sp?) for him. Is that safe? I can't find anything online so far about whether or not it is.

  1. Yes, it is a broad spectrum antibiotic that can be very effective and it is safe.  We use it here where I work. Get the kind that takes place of the water, not the kind that you mix into the water...

  2. Yes it is spelled correctly

well the only thing i can find is it is to treat 'bird flu' ( the avian contaigious one) and bird sinusitis. It doesn't seem readily available like Doxycycline 20%, Enroxil  or other avian meds. Maybe a call back to him  to see if they can supply you with it would be in good order.

Hope he feels better soon ;)

  3. if the vet recomended it, i would say t should be alright.

  4. Yes, it is perfectly safe for your bird since the Vet is the one recommending it. My cockatiel also has a problem (Sinus infection) due to the cold. She has to take it every 12 hours in both nostrils, mine is called ''trobamycin''.

    Good luck!
