  2. cockatoos live for a really long time and if i remember correctly, they get very attached to their owner, he could be grieving in a way that he doesnt have his owner any, more or it could be that he is nervous and anxious as he is not familiar with his surroundings, did your friend have any routines with him? something you might want to consider is talking to the ppl that gave him to you, all parrots are extremly curious and need ALOT of stimulation, he might be bored, different diet, not enough freah fruit and vegies and they need lots of play things to destroy give him pine cones make stick swings and tie ropes to it and make ladder s all there simple tihng will keep occupied , vary your activities and remember to cover cage when its night to settle him down  try your own routines as well just bewary of bad habbits they will pick up on and trynot to stress about it there are lots of little thingsto do that may help.
