Question:

Cockatoo suddenly agressive

I have a 10 year old cockatoo. Had her since she was about 5 months old. She is extremely sweet. Never had a biting issue. She even laid an egg this past February with no biting issues. Now, 2 days in a row she has become agressive and bitten me twice. She is not shredding or nesting. My dog passed away a couple of days ago. But she never really interacted with the dog because she has her own room. The dog would always hide when she came out so they never really saw each other. I cant imagine she is stressed over the dog not being around. What is going on?

  1. Is there anything else that could have stressed her out? Has her cage been moved, has she been getting enough sleep, has her diet changed recently?

  2. It's quite likely this is about the dog.  The dog was part of the flock even if they didn't see each other much (and I bet she enjoyed intimidating the dog).  Now the dog isn't there.  A flock member vanished.  If she thinks it's your fault, she may blame you for it and even fear she might be next.  Even if she doesn't blame you, she still may worry that you or she may vanish next.

  3. observe her a little more to see if she is eating well or showing any sickness symptoms.

she should not continue this behavior if she is not sick or something.

so for now, please observe her a little more to see what will happen.
