  1. I agree with Mark. If you know your alcohol and drinks and have a great personality, you can make good money pretty much anywhere. It really depends on your interests...if you are into sports, obviously a sports bar would be a great place to work. If you have an interest in business, consider working at a place where a lot of business people go for dinner and/or happy hour. The idea is that you need to be able to converse intelligently with your customers about their interests.

It doesn't hurt to be good looking and in great shape, either. I know that sounds sexist, but I've been in the restaurant business since for over 30 years, and 90% of the cocktail waitresses are hired for looks first, brains second.

I work with a guy who has 2 sisters, both dropdead gorgeous, who work at a bar in Wrigleyville (the neighborhood where the Chicago Cubs play). He said on game days, they can easily make $300-$400 A DAY.

  2. Depends.  If you are upbeat and on the ball you should do good with the tips.  Especially if you work in a busy place.
