I'm desperately looking for a place to have a cocktail and hor'dourve party for my husbands 30th birthday. Preferably outside or somewhere unique. I'm finding places like The Water Works in Phila which would be great, however they have minimums of like $1,000!!!! I can't spend that much but I really want it to be special. Any ideas would be great.

  1. why not have it at your house or a good friends house? you could save money by not having to rent a place out and then you could go all out with decorations etc..

  2. know anyone in a downtown apartment that may have a roof top area you could rent out or use- would be great! or maybe an apartment or house with a pool area you may be able to rent out during the evening- would look cool at night party around the lit up pool.

or maybe a park pavilion building with a nice patio area- they let you bring in all your own drinks and food then.

otherwise a small bar/restaurant- buy a 1/4 barrel and a bunch of appetizer trays, maybe some bottles of wine...they should have a small area you can set up for your party otherwise a separate room. Any party boats in your area? we have a boat on the river that has a drink/appetizer cruise they do for about 1-2 hours- but it's like $20 a person (don't' know if you wanted to pay for everyone or have them pay for themselves?) I would suggest to drive around to cool areas and look at small places and see what they might charge you for something like that.

  3. Try to find a locally owned restaurant, with a big back room or something.  Usually those don't have as high minimums and because they are local the owners are there to work with you and accommodate you!
