Coco Crisp return to Oakland Athletics helps team win
Not much can be said about the Oakland Athletics at the moment. They are close in contention for the leading spot in the American League West.
However, the situation is at a height where things can tilt in their favour. Their league rivals, Texas Rangers, are on top in the standings and they were going up against the A’s on May 2, 2011, for the third game in the series. Fortunately for Oakland,
their second win came off exceptional hitting and pitching.
Coco Crisp was elegant in his return as he went 2-for-5, hitting a double and a RBI single. He also availed the privilege to score as Conor Jackson sliced a double to the deep right in the first inning. Coming off an injury, the outfielder raised his bar
by wearing a different hairstyle.
"Obviously, that's what you want to do as a leadoff hitter is get on base", Crisp said. "It definitely felt good after a few days off to come back and right off the bat get something going. We were able to pull out the win, not necessarily because of the
'fro but because Gio pitched a great game and our hitters hit today".
A’s manager, Bob Geren, is not a fan of ‘afros’ and he wasn’t able to criticise Crisp for sporting the new hairstyle. It’s believed the hitter can continue to torment his skipper with the new change if he continues to hit like he has.
"Skipper, I think he's digging the ponytail", Crisp said. "The braids are the best, obviously, but ... the Afro, after I got the two hits today, I guess anything goes. As long as you're getting on base, you can go out there with a half-bald head or long
hair or whatever”.
The outfielder claims that his manager was pushing him towards a ponytail but his teammates opposed the decision, citing wastage in time in taking the braids out. They stressed on letting the hair flow wildly instead. Eventually that is what he did and it
apparently worked.
The ball star affirmed that the A’s were able to pick up a win, not necessarily because of the afro, but Gio Gonzalez’s exceptional pitching and the hitters’ astonishing knock.
