Coco Crisp stuns Detroit Tigers in ALDS Game 4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to the Oakland Athletics 3-4 in a thrilling encounter at O.co Coliseum on Wednesday, October 10 in Game 4 of the American League Divisional Series.
Tigers secured comfortable wins in first two games of the series and they were looking to sweep the A’s to reach the American League Championships Series but that did not turn out be the case.
Credit should be given to the A’s for showing great fighting spirit and determination under pressure. The pitching rotation, in particular, has given some impressive results over the last few weeks and it will be interesting to see if the A’s can continue
their good work in the finale to leave Tigers in disarray.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Max Scherzer put up a great show as he pitched five plus sold innings, giving up just three hits and one run to keep A’s on the defensive. However, the night belonged to A’s, who scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun
their American League opponents.
"It's amazing," Coco Crisp said. "The guys in front of me obviously did a fantastic job of getting on base. ... This club, we've been battling the whole year, giving 100 percent, and these walk-offs have been our MO this year."
"That's why this is the greatest game of all," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "It looked like we were going to get it. We didn't do it. We didn't quite get the 27 outs, that's part of the game. You get tested all the time in this game. And this is a
good test."
Tigers led the score 3-1 going into the ninth inning. Jose Valverde stepped on the mound, hoping to finish off the A’s. However, he was unable to control his nerves under pressure.
Seth Smith played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he doubled to deep right centre in the ninth to level the score 3-3. Coco Crisp delivered the tie breaking run to help Oakland edge past the Tigers.
For the Tigers, Austin Jackson singled to left in the third and Prince Fielder homered to right in the fourth but their effort did not prove to be enough.
