Coco Crisp’s strong come-back helps Oakland Athletics outclass Texas Rangers 7-2 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics' centre-fielder Coco Crisp had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 2-for-5 which resulted in the Athletics 7-2 victory against the Texas Rangers at Overstock.com Coliseum in Oakland on May 1.
Crisp expressed his excitement as, “Obviously, that's what you want to do as a leadoff hitter is get on base. It definitely felt good after a few days off to come back and right off the bat get something going. We were able to pull out the win.”
The Rangers were unable to score until the fifth inning but the Athletics scored their runs in the first inning when Crisp hit a shot and posted a run on the two-run double of Conor Jackson towards the right-field position. Jackson had two RBIs on two hits.
The Athletics took a 3-0 lead when Kurt Suzuki made a single run through an infield area.
In the second inning, Crisp led off the Athletics 4-0 by hitting a two-out RBI single. Crisp and Jackson both contributed almost equally for the Athletics. Jackson improved his hitting average to .360 with seven RBIs and four extra-base hits. While Crisp
made his come-back after recovering from an injury. Daric Barton added a double run for his team.
Suzuki attained the short-stop on the throwing error of Elvis Andrus as the Athletics added two more runs in their lead and the scorecard moved to 6-0 in the third inning. Hideki Matsui scored a single run on the two-out single of Cliff Pennington. Dave
Bush struck out Josh Willingham but it was too late for the Rangers.
The Rangers worked in the sixth and seventh inning to reduce the lead and posted a single run in both innings to move the scorecard 6-2. Ian Kinsler and Michael Young put their efforts by scoring runs for the Rangers. Andy LaRoche contributed a single in
the seventh inning to extend the lead 7-2. The next two innings were scoreless for both teams.
The Rangers’ starter Matt Harrison was too expensive as he pitched just one inning and permitted four runs on six hits including four earned runs. He had only one strike-out. The Rangers’ Manager Ron Washington said of Harrison, “He just didn't have it again
today. Once again it was his command. Giving up base hits, I have no problem with that. He just didn't have his command. He certainly has got to do better and he knows that.”
The Athletics’ starter Gio Gonzalez pitched superbly right through his six innings and allowed just two runs on five hits with two earned runs. The Rangers’ seven batters were struck-out against Gonzalez. The relievers also did their job by not allowing
a single run in their respective pitched innings.
