Coco Ecolo's season taking an upward curve rapidly – Next stop Serena’s Song Stakes
After a series of frustrating attempts to break her maiden, Coco Ecolo left Aqueduct to try her luck at Monmouth.
The change of scene brought wins galore as the three-year-old filly broke her maiden at Monmouth Park and won a first-level allowance race as well.
Trained by Kelly Breen for owners George and Lorie Hall, Coco Ecolo began her two-year career at the Aqueduct race course.
Hoping to break her maiden to kick off her career, she started off on 27 February, 2011, in a six furlongs' maiden race.
Under jockey, David Cohen, on the Aqueduct dirt track, the filly challenged and repelled challenges on the field, but it wasn’t her day as she finished 3rd.
Coco Eloco’s connections considered a change of jockey and Jose Valdivia was called upon to guide the 3-year-old filly to her first maiden success.
This time with a mile and seventy yards to contend, the pair showed promise without luck and the result was same, finished third on the same Aqueduct dirt track on 20 March, 2011.
Third time the charm, Kelly Breen must have had his fingers crossed as he sent his winless filly under new jockey Charles Lopez, cutting back to a mile on Turf at Aqueduct.
The finish worsened as Coco Ecolo ended up at sixth place at the end of the race on 15 April, 2011.
Desperate attempt to shot out Coco Ecolo on the Monmouth race course, her connections would’ve rued the delay as she landed her first maiden race win under jockey Paco Lopez at a distance of 1 mile 70 yards on dirt on 21 May, 2011.
She topped Puzzling and Dixie Dear and completed the distance in a fast 1 minute and 43.29 seconds.
Kelly Breen did not even think of moving the filly elsewhere this time, gave her a first-level allowance race under Paco Lopez.
The winning combination prevailed as the pair cruised to the wire making impressive fractions of 1 minute and 40.74 seconds fast at a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards.
The three-year-old daughter of Johannesburg has run herself fit to aim for higher top class races, Kelly Breen has shown confidence in the filly by stating that she has learned well and now her learning process is over.
The inner track of Aqueduct did not allow Coco Ecolo to get fit by racing, but when she was launched at Monmouth the fitness level increased and now she seems to be training well.
Coco Ecolo’s next assignment is the $75,000 Serena’s Song Stakes, where she will meet six foes at a familiar distance of 1 mile and 70 yards.
Serena’s Song Stakes is a preparation race for the 30th August Monmouth Oaks.
Four Monmouth trained runners will participate in the race, Coco Ecolo being one of them.
She will face the likes of Street Storm, Art of The Hunt and Salary Drive among others.
