Coco Ho and Paige Hareb bounce back after Round 1 slip at Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012
Hawaii’s Coco Ho and New Zealand’s Paige Hareb bounced back from their Round 1 stumble by claiming top honours in their respective Round 2 heats at Roxy Pro Biarritz 2012, the sixth of seven stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s
World Tour, which continued at Cote des Basques in Biarritz, France, on Friday, July 13.
Ho got the better of France’s Justine Dupont in the fifth heat of Round 2 to advance through into the third round, bringing the competition to an early end for her rival in the process.
The sixth heat saw Hareb prevail over France’s Pauline Ado to confirm her place in the competition while adding her rival’s name to the elimination list.
The opening day of the latest ASP Women’s World Tour event saw warm sunny weather with three-to-five foot waves prevailing at the primary event site. A huge crowd had shown up at Cote des Basques to catch the ASP top female surfers in action as they battled
it out to survive the initial rounds of the competition.
The fifth heat saw Ho and Dupont pitted against each other in a battle for survival. Both the surfers had failed to make much of an impact during their Round 1 heats and thus found themselves standing on the edge with absolutely no room for error.
As the heat got underway, Ho went to work early and posted a 7.00 on the score-board. She went through a number of waves before eventually adding an additional 9.00 points to her account, reaching a heat-total of 16.00 points.
Dupont put on a determined fight, which was nothing short of impressive. However, she was eventually forced to concede victory to her rival after finishing with a heat-total of 15.15 points, which comprised of a 7.15 and 8.00-point wave.
The battle for the last-remaining spot in the third round saw Hareb take down the local talent Ado in what turned out to be a low-scoring affair. The New Zealand-based surfer collected a 4.90 and 5.75 off her best-two waves for a heat-total of 10.65 points
against her rival’s two-wave total of 7.50 points, which comprised of a 3.00 and 4.50-point ride. As a result, Hareb successfully moved into the next round, whereas Ado was forced to take on the role of a spectator for the remaining event.
