Hi - I am wondering if taking codeine all the time means you are addicted to it, and if so, what are the dangers? How can someone wean themselves off codeine?

  1. Codeine is not addictive, however your mind will want to keep taking it. the actual substance however has nothing to help addict you. eventually however the doses you take will have to become much stronger to allow you to have the same sensations. it is not dangerous. and there are many stages past codeine. Oxy-Codeine is extremely strong stuff. stronger than morphine. but still, not dangerous and not addictive.

  2. Codeine is a narcotic analgesic drug derived from opium poppies. it is not as strong as some others and often used in combination drugs. codeine may cause dizziness and drowsiness, especially if taken with alcohol. It may be that you enjoy the chilled feeling it gives..although in some, this drowsy effect may be reversed, maybe  you  get high a bit & buzzy, almost like speed.  over long periods of time, it may cause constipation long term and it can be habit forming ie, addictive in some individuals

  3. I think its addictive, even though its not strong.Go to drugs.com for more info. You would need to taper down or taper to completely get off the medicine,to avoid withdrawals.I need to do this to get off a stronger narcotic that Im on,even though Im still in pain because of my back.It might be hard but you can do it!! Good luck!

  4. Any pain killer can become addicting. Codeine can become one of them, and you can become addicted to it, what you have to do is whine yourself off of it slowly. Try this site http://www.drugs.com/codeine.html it will give you a lot of information.

  5. Like any other drug, its a drug addiction.  If your addicted you would have to get help from a sponsor group, like NA. or go in to rehab.
