Codeine vs HydroCodone Cough syurp...Itching...HELP!!?

I have Broncitus and was prescribed Codiene Phosphate syurp for the coughing. It helped the coughing but I was so itchy i couldnt sleep and my whole body is now scratched up....i think ive been on hydrocodone syurp before and the iching wasnt liek this...is it appropriate to go back to the doc and ask for the switch?? Believe me its not about getting 'high'i just want to stop coughing!! Thanks!!

  1. You should definitely call your doc.  In the meantime to try to get rid of the itchies, you can try Benadryl. It always works for me.  If the itching is "killing" you, you might have to take two capsules.


  2. Call your doctor or pharmacist that can advise you accurately. Sounds like you are having a bit of Codiene intolerance, which needs to be addressed medically to find appropriate resolve. You can visit www.webmd.com or www.drugdigest.org to read up on the medication you are taking, there you can easily understand the medication as well as the adverse reactions etc...Take care, hope you feel better soon~

  3. If you cant see the doctor and/or there's a reason why he is not giving it to you try some antihistamines. These can work to relieve itching and help you get to bed. This is probably the safer/easier option and can be quite effective. If the cough has been going on for more than three weeks go see your doctor to rule out anything sinister that might be causing the cough.
