Cody Eppley picks his first win of the season as the Rangers close out the Blue Jays, 7-6 – MLB
On Wednesday, April 27th, Cody Eppley picked up his first win of the season with the Texas Rangers in Major League Baseball (MLB).
The former Minor League player appeared on the mound for the second time this season and he took help from a couple of relievers, above the age of 40 years, to cement his achievement in the game.
The 25-year-old pitched in two innings and allowed just one hit to the Toronto Blue Jays that went for a home run off Juan Rivera’s bat, unfortunately for the young pitcher. The pitcher had a remarkable runs average of 1.93 when he walked out of the encounter.
He was able to retain the win as Arthur Rhodes and Darren Oliver made their collective 1,460th Major League appearances on the mound against Toronto.
Eppley was very eager to treat the two veterans for their assistance.
"He's going to take us out to dinner on this road trip for making two 40-year-old guys help him get his first win", Arthur Rhodes said.
It was Mitch Moreland who sealed the lead over Toronto in the bottom seventh innings as he slew the opposition with a magnificent solo home run. The shot came of Octavio Dotel’s pitch who was trying to contain the Rangers.
The rest was history as Rhodes pitched a scoreless eighth and Oliver a scoreless ninth to close the game.
"It's always great to have those guys behind you", Eppley said. "This is just a dream come true from everything ... my first day here [on Saturday] and now this. I did hawk the win away from Holland, but to get the opportunity and accomplish the dream of getting my first Major League win is awesome".
The hurler’s one run concession to Rivera did cost someone a victory and that was none other than Derek Holland, on the verge of winning the encounter.
The run took away the victory from him. For Eppley, that may not be a good sign since he will be sharing an apartment with the starter.
"I might have to do something about his rent or pop his air mattress", Holland joked.
The two plan to move in together after a series trip in Oakland and Seattle.
