Cody Hodgson expecting some more time on ice against San Jose Sharks
It was almost two years ago that the Vancouver Canucks rookie star, Cody Hodgson, came across a career threatening back injury. This was the reason that he was almost out of action almost throughout the 2009-10 season.
He sustained the injury when he was working out in the summer of 2009 and he said that there was a time when he thought that this pain would last forever.
"I couldn't see this far", he said. "To tell you the truth, there was no thought about (playing in the NHL) at all. At this time last year, it was a totally different world.
"It's pretty incredible what a year can do and it'll be even nicer if we can go all the way here, cap everything off … but we're still in a great series here against San Jose".
Hodgson has been on the recovery list ever since getting back and this season he has played in 52 games with the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose. He was out of action from the team after sometime due to the fact that he faced some problems in his
backbone but was back once again. He played in eight games for the Vancouver Canucks in February and was able to score a goal and also came up with an assist.
Hodgson has a lot of talent that can be seen from the fact that he was named the player of year in the Ontario Hockey League in 2009 and was also the alternate captain for the Canadian junior team that won the goal medal.
After a long time he took to the ice against the San Jose Sharks in the first game of the Western Conference Finals.
Although he spent only about six minutes on the ice, he showed what he was made of by matching his performance with those around him. This was a good sign for the Canucks, who are looking to build players for the future as well.
"Everybody has a role. In the past I played on some pretty good teams growing up, every team has fourth liners that need to go out and do their role and they're a really big part of it", he said.
According to a statement made by the coach of the Canucks, Alain Vigneault, even though Hodgson hasn’t come up with productive minutes, he is one player whose maturity level is admired by everyone and he will be spending more time on ice with the passage
of time.
