Cody Ross approached by Philadelphia Phillies, as per reports-MLB Update
Free agent outfielder, Cody Ross invited interest from the Philadelphia Phillies. As per sources, among the potential buyers for Ross, the Phillies are actively pursuing him.
The Philadelphia Phillies lost their regular outfielder during last season as they traded Shane Victorino.
Naturally, one of their offseason tasks was to address this area. Though they took Ben Revere through a trade earlier, their job is far from done yet.
They still need an outfielder so that they can go through the entire upcoming season without having to worry about depth.
By many ways, Ross can fulfil their needs. He boasts the credentials to hit well and do an impressive job in the field.
During the last season, his performance was commendable, as is indicated from 22 home runs and 81 RBIs he produced.
So far the Phillies have used the route of trade options more in order to address issues with their roster. Largely, they have stayed away from the free agent market.
Despite being financially strong, they have shown the least amount of interest in the free agents, except for a few players.
Earlier Phillies General Manager, Rubén Amaro, Jr. spoke about the quality of the free agents this year.
He was of the opinion that the majority of them are not worthwhile enough and that it was better for his club to use other options for making new acquisitions on the roster.
Certainly, Ross is one of the few free agents that the Phillies are trying to sign. It is not yet known as to how much they are willing to pay him.
If Ross joins the Phillies, he will be another player in his 30's for the club.
Given the fact the fans are already sick of the old team members, he can aggravate their concerns.
The criticism will surely emerge against the management for being too reliant on aged individuals as opposed to inducting youngsters into the team.
The Phillies have a number of veterans sitting on their roster at the moment. It will be interesting to see how they help them during the upcoming season.
If the Phillies fail in another season, drastic changes on their roster can be expected.
