Cody Ross helps Boston Red Sox edge Seattle Mariners 4-3 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-3 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, September 4 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an amazing game of baseball as both teams fought hard for supremacy. Red Sox handled the pressure brilliantly to outclass their opponents in finer details of the game. Credit should be given to the Manager Bobby Valentine who has shown great determination
to put his team back on the winning track.
Jesus Montero provided Mariners with an excellent start as he singled to right in the first inning to put his side on the board. Centre fielder Franklin Gutierrez and Kelly Seager hit back-to-back home-runs to stretch Seattle’s lead to 3-0 in the third inning
but the Red Sox were not prepared to give up.
Cody Ross, who had a decent outing on Monday, hit a three run home-run to left and Ryan Lavarnway connected for a solo home-run in the sixth inning to help Red Sox come back from behind to clinch a thriller.
Starting pitcher Jon Lester was persistent as he gave up nine hits and three innings in six decent innings to grab his 9th win of the season.
"It feels good to shake hands. It's been a while," Boston outfielder Cody Ross said.
"Our guys looked happy after the game," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "It's great to see them with smiles and coming from behind ... it was a good win. Maybe it will get something started."
"There's a lot at stake right now," Ross said. "Even though we're not in the hunt, there's jobs at stake; guys have to stay hungry and go out and battle and win a spot for next year, whether you're a young kid or a free agent or whatever."
The Red Sox have lost more often than not after the All Star Break and it will not be wrong to say that they are out of the playoff race. It will be interesting to see if Valentine and company can lift themselves to end the season on a positive note.
