Cody Ross not close to deal with Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox’s management is playing their offseason cards quite carefully as they know they cannot afford expensive players in their roster.
“Yeah, definitely, because now it’s going to be more complex with other teams involved. They had a ton of opportunities. We talked about this back in July and we couldn’t work anything out up until the deadline. Now it only makes sense to listen to other teams. But obviously we’re going to talk [with the Red Sox," Ross explained on the complex situation he and Red Sox are facing regarding terms and conditions are concerned.
First it is the Major League new collective bargaining condition that gives league players to sign new contracts with hefty cash, but at the same time Red Sox management knows that their current financial sources are not enough to match new expensive deals with free agents.
According some reliable sources, their plan is simple as to stick with the existing players and if needed, extend their contract not putting extra clauses in it as well.
The same case with Ross, who despite playing well for the Red Sox could not get enough confidence of the franchise.
“It hasn’t been really what I would say close, now it’s going to be more complex with other teams involved. It’s not just [the Red Sox]. They had a ton of opportunities. Now it only makes sense to listen to other teams,” Ross told the media recently.
Ross finished .267 hitting average along with 22 homers, 81 RBIs and .326 OBP.
Ross no doubt is a talented player and possesses large Major League experience as he is considered one of the best right fielders in the league.
He had also played for the Detroit Tigers along with Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants.
His re-signing with the Red Sox can bring some quality opportunities for the franchise but it seems the South Boston side is quite reluctant to give him another deal at the moment.
Seeing his career .262 hitting average along with 122 homers 452 RBIs and .324 OBP also gives a fair idea that many teams will be interested in him in this offseason.
