Question:

Coeliac Travelling to Kenya?

I am a coeliac and therefore, must obey a strict gluten free diet. I was wondering if any similar people on here have ever travelled to Kenya and could tell me what the food is like etc..

i've had a look at it seems to be a lot of maize stuff which is good (cos i can eat that) but any help wud be appreciated..

  1. I believe that it may depend on whether you're traveling independently or on a tour. If a tour you may want to notify them of your needs.  They tend to feed one rather well on the tours. If going on your own then I agree with the other answerer that their diet in Kenya is fruit and grains.  A great fruit selection is usually available esp. if you're near the coast.  

    One item I could never get use to is the standard fare at so many meals of corn meal mush.  Very tasteless even with a gravy or ??  You'll survive, great people and a great country.  Lived there for two years and had a great time.


  2. wheat free food is available in Kenya. you only need to inform the hotel your dietary requirements. You are correct.........our staple food is maize + a lot of pulses, roots/tubers (like potatoes, yams etc), veges/fruits.....................i hope this helps

  3. Most "Mzungu" foods are there, can you eat rice? They eat alot of rice and bread and Ugali (Maize meal).. But if your going to be staying in hotels they have all the foods you have at home anyways.
