The Portuguese full-back stated that he cannot say ‘no’ to a move back to Benfica and he plans on going back to his boyhood club.
The Real Madrid full back recently admitted that he eyes a future move to Benfica, the club where he became the player he is today.
Fabio Coentrao joined Real Madrid during the previous summer transfer window and since then he has not really been a first-choice player for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese full-back always gets a tough competition in the left-back position as the Brazilian star, Marcelo, is better than him in that role.
During the FIFA World Cup 2010, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Coentrao proved that he is the player who might replace Marcelo in the left-back role at Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho decided to buy him so that Marcelo can get some competition in that position.
Marcelo was not performing to his standards and during the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcelo-c23554 on numerous occasions.
Mourinho got the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 done as soon as he signed Coentrao. When the Portuguese full-back started giving Marcelo some competition in the left-back position, Marcelo showed his true colours and became one of the best left-backs in the Spanish La Liga.
However, when it comes down to being good defensively, both, Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao are not as good as they should be.
They help the team in the final third but there is no doubt that defensively they are weak.
Coentrao played his role in the centre of the pitch as well. Jose Mourinho decided to play Coentrao as a holding midfielder and that worked out fine for the star Portuguese player. However, he was unable to perform at the same rate when the competition was intense.
Mourinho even fielded Coentrao as a right-back against Barcelona and Andres Iniesta got the best out of him time and time again.
Recently, in an interview, Coentrao stated that he will make a move back to Benfica soon.
"Benfica is the club I love, the club of my heart," he told O Jogo while giving an interview.
"I will come back while I am still fresh, not when I am just finishing my career."
Coentrao managed to perform phenomenally for the Portuguese side during the Euro 2012 campaign.
