Sorry I'm late. Happy Coffee Friday!

1. We say, “FootBALL, BaseBALL, & BasketBALL”...why not call our game "hockeyPUCK"?

2. What pro sport players have the most hand callouses? Maybe the NBA?….they don’t wear gloves?

3. Hockey-gal, please forgive me. Why is it that 2 of the most redneck sports have the longest acronyms? NASCAR, WWE RAW…& yet the sports that appeal to smarter fans have shorter acronyms?

4. If hockey did not have goalies, would the game be higher or lower scoring than basketball?

5. What other sport has a wide "age-range" of fans, other than hockey?

6. The NHL logo was redesigned a handful of years ago. It was orange & black, & the letters “NHL”, went from upper-left to bottom-right of the shield. Now the logo is silver & black, & the letters “NHL” go from bottom left, to upper right of the crest or shield. Should the person that redesigned the NHL logo, even get freaking paid? I mean,I know finger-painting toddlers that are more creative.

  1. 1. Why not I kind of like it. Then we can call our other sport Curling stones to distinguish it from curling irons. And then maybe we can call it horse shoes, oh we already do that.

2,. I was watching TSN the other day maybe Darts can do this.

    3. Yeah like UFC and MUD wrestling.

    4. Only if they counted two points for a normal goal and 3 points for a shot from outside the Blue Line.

    5. If you are guessing that they real age of fans echoes that of the regulars on Y!A hockey, you're mistaken. Most hockey fans are over 12.

    6. I worked for a company that had a simple logo. The company was split into 5 other companies. The company that inherited the Logo had to pay the other five, 5 Million each for the right to use the logo. It's big money for Ads.

LITY do you think there are many here who understand the post rule? How about the old hang a sock trick?

  2. 1)  Because it sounds dumb :P

    2)  Most hand callouses?  Probably Major league Baseball players.

    3)  Haha beats me.

    4)  Probably still a little less.

    5)  NFL and MLB

    6)  I could've done that

  3. 1. Because our game is cooler than all of those and we don't have to conform to their low standards.

    2. Probably the NBA, yeah.

    3. You know, I bet half of NASCAR fans don't even know what it stands for...

    4. Lower scoring, still. There are on average 25 shots per game for each team, so that would be like 25 goals. Considering teams would shoot more on an empty net, I would raise that number to about 50 goals for each team per game with games finishing around 54-51 or something. Still not as high as NBA. Oh, and also, in the NBA, every shot made counts as either 2 points or 3 points, which further contributes to the higher scoring.

    5. Soccer. Just look at the fans in the stands of any English Premier League, or UEFA Champions League game, there are fans of all ages there.

    6. I dunno lol. But it doesn't look too bad. I never did understand why the old logo had orange...

  4. 1. That guy on the NHL.network commercial said it's because a hawk stole the puck and the natives yelled "Hawk, ehh"......"Hawk ehh" and it stuck.

    2. Baseball because there always left doing nothing but swinging there bats.

    3.we don't need to abbreviate.

4.would the puck be bigger or the net smaller?

    5.baseball

6.Gary Bettman drew it years ago and someone found it hanging on his moms fridge...so they went with it.

Homes...I still don't know why "coffee friday"? Coffee break?

  5. 1) Because hockey players are smart enough to know the tool of their sport without having it in the name

    2)  I'm thinking baseball

    3)  Um

    4)  When you have no goalies, the post rule comes into play............duh!

    5)  golf

    6)  It was an internal job, no money 'changed hands'.  It was also a decision made my Ted Saskin to 'help' the NHL move forward after the lockout.  He felt that moving the logo so that NHL was 'rising' would show the NHL was going up up and away

  6. I had a bit of a personal meltdown and went on hockey hiatus for like 2 weeks...man Im I glad to have a coffee friday Q and A to come back to. Thanks, Homes, youre the bestest! On with the show!

    1. I think it goes back tot he fact that hockey doesnt use a ball...like we can say, lets go shoot the puck, if we say "play ball" some idiot will misunderstand.

2.Is there such a thing as a pro weight lifter? Id imagine the honour goes to athletes who need chalk to avoid rips, like gymnasts.

3.So when we explain it to the rednecks they dont have as many letters to remember.

4.I think still less because players would still be able to create a lot of traffic and take each other out to avoid completion

    5. Baseball, little guys play T-Ball and theres fat drunken dads at yankees games.

    6. Seriously. Pay the little kids with some Oreos and be on with it.

  7. 1. Because Hockey is good as is.

    2. Possibly NFL and MLB.

    3. Clarification: RAW is a word, not an acronym.

Now to the answer: Smarter people are more efficient with letters?

    4. Probably still lower.  Not everyone can hit an empty net.

    5. Baseball.

    6. No.  What was wrong with the way it looked before?

  8. 1- Because that would be cursing!

    2- I'd say MLB...bunch of wankers

3- It's their way of say..."see we know the alphabet"

    4- Lower

    5- Cycling

    6- "No soup for you"!!!

  9. 1. Good question..cause it doesn't sound as good?

    2. Probably MLB.

    3. MAaybe rednecks are smarter than they look...

    4. Higher, much easier to score from farther away.

    5. Baseball? Everyone loves baseball, except of course the people who don't love baseball.

    6. I could've made that change and I was once told that I have no creativity and I should just stck to coloring books.

    Plus the orange was better.

  10. 1) Because it would sound too much like we are saying something else.

    2)Gymnasts

3)people in the south like letters They are cool

4)About the same Because they still would have defensemen

    5)Baseball

6)The did the work, no matter how tiny the change of bad the end result was. You do the work you get paid.

  11. YAY, no work today, so I was able to catch the Coffee Friday questions, which make the world taste better (like Dr. Pepper used to). Thank you again Haley. :)

    1) I can't wait to watch some hockeypuck tomorrow. Loool.

    2) I would guess the NBA.

    3) We're smart enough to simplify and condense!

    4) Higher. Even though shot totals right now are lower than basketball scores, that's because guys don't take shots they don't think they'll make. Imagine how much more the puck would be lobbed at the net if there wasn't a goalie between the pipes. Icings galore. Ahhh, the chaos! Haha.

    5) Football! Another sport I like.

    6) Aw, but I think it should be simple. The colors should be as neutral as possible. The old logo was too pro-Anaheim Ducks. The new logo was probably harder to design than some people think. Simplifying a design, making it crisp & clear, and making it stand out as something marketable isn't as easy as some would think.

  12. 1. because those are ball sports, hockey doesnt have a ball to play with

    2. baseball?

    3. huh?

    4. lower

    5. baseball

    6. no

  13. 1. Because Hockey is superior, so it needs to sound unique.

    2. Football Fumble!

    3. OO! Staying out of this one.....

    4. Lower, some players stop pucks. http://youtube.com/watch?v=AAaqI9QrfBI

    5. Baseball, it attracts all ages, though, it doesn't attract Russians.

    6. Yea he should. Don't be dissin those who can't draw Haley! I can't draw to save my life.

  14. 1. We say, “FootBALL, BaseBALL, & BasketBALL”...why not call our game "hockeyPUCK"? Because its would make no Sense

    2. What pro sport players have the most hand callouses? Maybe the NBA?….they don’t wear gloves? Because it will rip their faces I think the would have to wear a Mask like Detroit Piston's RIP Hamilton does

    3. Hockey-gal, please forgive me. Why is it that 2 of the most redneck sports have the longest acronyms? NASCAR, WWE RAW…& yet the sports that appeal to smarter fans have shorter acronyms?

NASCAR Because WWE is Staged and Violent NASCAR is Real and Unpredictable I don't Staged Antics

    4. If hockey did not have goalies, would the game be higher or lower scoring than basketball? I say a lot higher the Basketball a Team score 210 to 200 in a single game

    5. What other sport has a wide "age-range" of fans, other than hockey?   Baseball has all fans for all ages

Yes because its his Creativity He wants to get paid too.

  15. 1.) Because hockey is cooler, so we get to be different?  Haha, I don't know.  Why isn't it golfball? or tennisball?  The world will never know.

2.) You don't really get callouses by bouncing a ball.  Probably baseball despite the gloves...Then again they sit for half the game so I dunno.

3.) Rednecks want to sound intelligent with their fancy sport names?

4.) Probably the same amount of goals (ignoring the point values per basket in basketball).

5.) Baseball, for sure.  Fans ranging from 2 - 90.

6.) No!  He just changed the colors!

  16. 1. well with Gary Bettman in control be prepared to call it hockeyBALL

    2. Baseball, this one's easy. not everyone wears gloves, and even with your gloves you get them.

    3. So people can use the excuse that they're learning while watching sports

    4. would each goal count as 2 points? lol

    5. Baseball again, Easy peasy. at games i see old men in their eighties watching and on the other side i see kids that are like 3-4-5-6+ years of age.

    6. Gary slipped his 3 year old son a nice 20 after that great invention.

  17. 1. We say, “FootBALL, BaseBALL, & BasketBALL”...why not call our game "hockeyPUCK"?

OK that actually made me spit out my diet dr. pepper laughing... good call  :)

    2. What pro sport players have the most hand callouses? Maybe the NBA?….they don’t wear gloves?

    tennis players?

    3. Hockey-gal, please forgive me. Why is it that 2 of the most redneck sports have the longest acronyms? NASCAR, WWE RAW…& yet the sports that appeal to smarter fans have shorter acronyms?

NASCAR is about as much of a sport as playing XBox is.  Maybe the long names makes them feel smart.

    4. If hockey did not have goalies, would the game be higher or lower scoring than basketball?

    It would suck BAD

    5. What other sport has a wide "age-range" of fans, other than hockey?

    Boxing

They should devise a new logo, with the silhouette of the new screen Avery invented in the playoffs this year!

  18. 1 Why not

    2 Probabbly the NBA

    3 Rednecks can't spell

4 Lower by like 20 points

5 Baseball, has many young and old fans

    6 Maybe he/she was a toddler.

  19. 1) 'Cuz than it'll just be another Target for Hockey Haters to constantly remove the P and turn in to an F. Which spells a naughty word

    2) Baseball

    4) Still lower I Think.

    5) Basketball/Baseball

    6) lmao

  20. 1) no sport names make very much since.. football you dont even use your foot.. that should be soccer like in europe.

    2) hah this is strange i would say baseball from batting and stuff.

    3) its just what their named iguess..

    4) lower scoring.. theirs only about 30 shots on goal during a game

    5) baseball.. it can go from five year olds to 85

    6) haha hey nhl is the stupid ones for actually using it i guess then..

  21. 1.  My sis when she was little, said 'kick it' for football (soccer) , 'hit it' for cricket, and 'knock it' for (field) hockey.  This won't help a bit, but it's a fun family joke.

    2.  Bull riders or moto cross, for sure.  Bull riding brings brain callouses to mind, too, really dangerous.

    3. Couldn't possibly comment - NHL has the same number of letters as PBR....

    4.  Lower.  Hockey players are allowed weapons.

    5.  I think sport in USA is generally treated as a family event, so there will be many.

    6.  If you think that's bad, try the 2012 London Olympic logo - it got complaints from epileptic sufferers for bringing on fits!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Summer...

  22. 1) Because hockey's the only game where our men play with a puck, not balls.

    2) Hmmm, never thought of that.  Either the NBA or the NFL, most likely.

    3) lol, I'm actually mentioned in a Homes question!  I could care less about wrestling, but it's a mouthful to say National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing every time.  However, as redneck as NASCAR was in the past, it's become an event both blue collar and white collar folks enjoy.

    4) Lower scoring; hockey goals are worth one point, whereas basketball has 1,2, and 3 pointers.

    5) Baseball and NASCAR, for sure.

    6) It was probably Bettman...

  23. Dag Homes, is somebody from my home telling you when I'm away? This is getting to be uncanny.....

    1. We say, “FootBALL, BaseBALL, & BasketBALL”...why not call our game "hockeyPUCK"?

    - All for it. Now I can not only say that I'm having a ball while playing the other sports, I could also say that I am having a puck of a good time playing hockey.

    2. What pro sport players have the most hand callouses? Maybe the NBA?….they don’t wear gloves?

    - In reality, at the beginning of this NBA season, many players complained about the redesigned basketball because it was rough on their skin. They were abrasive and the NBA did something about it.

    3. Hockey-gal, please forgive me. Why is it that 2 of the most redneck sports have the longest acronyms? NASCAR, WWE RAW…& yet the sports that appeal to smarter fans have shorter acronyms?

    - uhhhhhhhhhhh........I dunno...

    4. If hockey did not have goalies, would the game be higher or lower scoring than basketball?

    - More like tennis. Sorry, got Maria Sharapova on the brain today.

    5. What other sport has a wide "age-range" of fans, other than hockey?

    - Baseball for sure.

    - I was miffed because they were the Flyers colors. I guess what I hear is true - that the NHL really doesn't like the Flyers.....

  24. 1) It would be to wierd. "National HockeyPUCK League"

    2) Yeah the NBA is the only one I can think of.

    3) Maybe because there Redneck sports?lol

    4) About the same.

    5) Baseball probably.

    6) lol...well he DID just make a new logo for one of the world's most popular sports...why not get paid for it.

  25. 1) it's dumb and it's called ice hockey because it is played on ice

    2) weightlifting

    3) erm...good question!

    4) lower

    5) soccer, i'm sure many others do too

    6) i bet it cost millions to design that

  26. 1) would have to be NetPUCK..........

    2) Baseball- they have the most carpet burns too... well from playing anyway.

    3) the "smarter" fans were better able to edit them down to shorter.  Either that or the big names make them seem more important.

    4) Lower- smaller nets 4x6 inches instead of feet.  And we would have a no goal-tending rule

    5) Baseball/Football/Soccer

    6) I never noticed the change except the color.  I don't like change so I guess it was good.  Finger painting..... I remember a long detention in grade school because of finger painting.  Apparently the teacher did not mean to paint the walls of the class.  It doesn't come off as easy as it went on.

  27. 1.  Because we don't need to stoop to the low IQ level of Americans.

    2.  Baseball?  They have a lot of spare time between plays...

    3.  WWE is not a sport...then again, neither is NASCAR!

    4.  Lower

    5.  Baseball

    6.  Who cares, as long as they don't do something really stupid like try to redesign the Habs logo!

  28. 1. - LOL - I was just thinking the other day about how sports are named - international sports are called: soccer, hockey, cricket.  It must be a US thing to say "ball" on sports.

    2. - maybe NBA

    3. - even NASCAR ends in "car" - it *IS* a US thing to do that.

    4. - No, based on average shots on net.

    5. - soccer, outside North America

    6. - That's nothing.  Years ago, the then Liberal government of Canada paid MILLIONS of taxpayer money for a painting called "Voice Of Fire" - which consisted of three equally sized and straight colored bands.

  29. Hi

1 They have to remind their fans what type objects are in their game. That is why Hockey has some of the most intelligent fans, we remember.

    2. Honest answer, Gymnastic. My roommate several years ago was a coach.  Always was having problems with the callouses splitting while on the high bar.

    3. Got to have an IQ to figure the short ones out.  Long ones are not as creative.  Then again how many Sunday afternoon fans know what an  acronym is much less that NASCAR is one.

    4. Lower. look at the shots on goal. Then you would really see a premium on shot blocking.

    5. Fuzzball

    6. Huh what are you talking about. That was hard work for Sally, the chimp.

    Thank You
