Coffee sometimes makes me drowsy and sleepy too that's why if I have to stay awake I don't drink it. Am I the only person? And what effect does caffiene have? Does it make you more alert? Strangely Red Bull does work on me, but I'm sure it's not because of the caffiene cos I'm immune to it.

  1. Caffeine usually makes people more alert because it's a stimulant drug. I've heard of it not working for some people tho; you're not the only one. The problem with caffeine is that after it wakes you up, you crash a short while after that and end up feeling worse than before you drank the caffeine. Not everyone's the same; different levels of caffeine affect ppl in different ways.

If your body is resistant to caffeine and you're looking for something to wake you up, 5 Hour Energy is awesome. And it doesn't make you crash. It only has as much caffeine as 1 cup of coffee but it actually works cuz it has a ton of B vitamins. You can get it at any convenience store and it's not very expensive.

  2. Lol. My mom is like that too. Infact, a can of coke will put her out!!

  3. I was beginning to believe that I was the only one that had that problem. I sometime drink coffee just to get to sleep...amazing isn't it.

  4. Caffiene doesnt do anything for me either, I dont bother with any of the energy shots or drinks for that reason. maybe my body is just used to so much caffiene because I drink a lot of soda everyday.

In some energy things the Tuarine is supposed to be an energy booster... maybe that will work for you, I think it is in Rockstar energy drink.

  5. Mountain Dew gets me through a day of teaching!

  6. i get sleepy 2!  There is a lot of research on both humans and animals on the effects of caffeine, and there is often thoughts that too much is bad for us. There is no conclusive evidence to implicate caffeine consumption as being significantly harmful to health, but there still is controversy with this, as there is still some negative effects associated with caffeine consumption. Having some caffeine daily is ok, but using food and exercise strategies listed below, will certainly help in reducing fatigue and avoiding caffeine addiction.

  7. Not your ok. My husband and good friend have the same iusse, but both of them have ADHD. About me, I use to think caffiene didnt work on me, but I was drinking soda, mochas, or lattes. I found out it was the sugar in all those drinks that put me to sleep duh... If I drink coffee (alot of coffee) I perk up.

  8. it doesn't help me either. but i love cappucinos

  9. some research has been done  on caffeine but I cannot recall the source.

I do recall it spoke of effect of caffeine on humans as (in various degrees) being a stimulant THEN acting as a depressant. Having a second  and following doses is needed to keep the stimulant effect going.

If I recall correctly it implied the effect was more marked on some than others plus after the initial 'boost' it had exactly the opposite effect with sleepiness or lethargy the after  effect on the nervous system.

perhaps somebody can add to this or locate the original source?

  10. coffee doesnt work on me neither does red bull.. boooooooo!

  11. Caffeine doesn't make me alert, it makes me jittery if I have too much, but I can usually sleep easily after drinking caffeinated drinks.  Maybe the sugar in the Red Bull is what keeps you awake?

  12. Coffee doesnt work for me, ive only drank it twice and them 2 occasions was when i was desperate to stay awake lol. red bull doesnt work for me either and the last time i drank that it gave me a sore stomach for 12 hours. Yeah you probably are immune to caffine i am too lol.

  13. i feel sleepy when i have anythink with cafeen aswell. but guess you dont get enough in your system for it to work, or you dont wait long enough for the effects.  you dont feel it working at all, it just keeps you more alert.

Red Bull contains Taurine which is supposed to give the cafeen a kick. it also has glucose and sugers in it which will help a lot.

  14. Caffeine does have some negative effects on your body. The cycle that develops with caffeine causes people to drink more as they "come down" off of their caffeine buzz. You drink more, you get more adrenaline, and you're back on top. Your body sees this as a heightened state of alert all day long. Not good over a long period of time.

Caffeine resides in the body for a half-life of 5-7 hours on average, but depends on metabolism, blood-flow, and a variety of other factors. Smokers and young children typically have a shorter caffeine half-life, while pregnant women, women taking oral contraceptives, and people with liver disease can have much longer half-lives. A pregnant woman may have a half-life for caffeine in the body between 18 and 20 hours.

It stands to reason that drinking coffee late in the day will have residual effects well into the evening. Caffeine prevents the body from entering the deepest part of sleep, and the result is sleep that is less rejuvenating than the norm. After a night of less restful snoozing, you'll go right to the coffee pot in the morning to help you cope with the foggy-head you wake with. This perpetuates the cycle, injecting your body with fun stuff like adrenaline, dopamine, and adenosine blocking goodness. Then, you crash. Somewhere around noon you get tired. You eat some food, get sleepy, and then you drink more coffee. The cycle continues, and your sleep the next night is less than beautiful. Ultimately, caffeine can prevent deep, restful, or prolonged sleep, which can lead to a cycle of increased caffeine intake.

  15. It's not immunity, it's called crashing.  That's when your body uses up it's energy in a small amount of time (you may not feel it) and you run out of energy.
