We have a sink but no stove top or hot plate. Only a drip coffee maker and a microwave. I'm used to using a tea kettle at home. Will microwaving the water make any difference at all?

  1. Yeah! You can do that.  The only down side is that it will be harder to control the temperature since water doesn't bubble when it boils in the microwave.  Coffee should be brewed just off a boil (below, not above 212 F).  At Starbucks, our coffee is brewed with water at about 195F.

Also remember to try to use filtered water for the best flavor!

  2. It actually will work out better. Water for brewing coffee should be at 180 F., not 212 which is the boiling point at sea level. If you first boil the water in the micro and then let it cool to about 180 before mixing it with the ground beans, the coffee will taste best.

  3. Yes it will work. It may be difficult to get the water to the perfect temperature. Just remember to use filtered water.  Coffee tastes the best this way.  Good Luck!

  4. Microwave water will work just fine, be sure to get it plenty hot though.

You can also use the water from the drip coffee maker, but do not put coffee in the pod holder... just let clear water drip to the hot plate and sit for a few minutes to get hot enough. The microwave is probably the better option.
