Cogito en-route to Royal Ascot after succeeding in the Betfair Heron Stakes
The young runner, Cogito is on his way to the Royal Ascot after delivering a brilliant performance at Sandown recently.
Owned by the Reddam Racing Llc, the bay colt has demonstrated his superior racing ability in both his starts, and is headed to Ascot.
Jamie McCalmont, representative of the owner Paul Reddam confirmed his place at the Royal Ascot meet as he stated:
"I think we'll look at the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and take it from there."
The Brian Meehan trained colt excelled at Sandown on 31st May, 2012, where he raced with an 8-1 chance in the Betfair Heron Stakes.
Teamed with jockey, Frankie Dettori, the duo performed brilliantly, taking full advantage of the good to firm surface of the track.
Cogito claimed the victory by a narrow margin of a neck and defeated Sir Henry Cecil’s charge, Stipulate, leaving him to finish as a runner-up, whereas the Sir Michael Stoute trained, Tales Of Grimm, finished third, 2 lengths behind the runner-up.
Dettori worked well with the temperament of Cogito, guided him to the victory and brought the best in him. Jamie McCalmont appreciated the talented jockey’s effort as he stated that:
"I thought Frankie gave him a brilliant ride and the horse should come on from it."
The son of Giant´s Causeway, out of mare Ladies Cruise, left a lasting impact with his career maiden, as he successfully broke all barriers in the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes at Newmarket on 18th April, 2012.
The three-year-old raced with a 14-1 chance, and had slim chances of winning, but with his brisk pace and guidance of jockey, Martin Dwyer, he took the track by storm and defeated the William Haggas trained, Nine Realms, by a margin of 2 ¾ lengths
while the third place was secured by the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Periphery, who fell ¾ of a length behind the runner-up.
With two races already in the bag, the colt will aim to claim a third victory in order to complete his hat-trick. He has shown his true potential and with enough experience, he will be one of the toughest runners to beat.
