Cogito unlikely to run in Coral-Eclipse at Sandown
Brian Meehan’s 3-year-old, Cogito, is unlikely to take part in Saturday’s Group 1 Coral-Eclipse due to the unfavourable conditions at Sandown. The dashing colt has recorded a tremendous victory at this track, when seizing the top place in the Betfair Heron Stakes at the end of May.
The ground was a lot harder that day, but with plenty of rain around this time, the connections are unlikely to take any risk. According to the officials, the going is good, good to firm in places, but the conditions are expected to become more testing because of the expected rain.
The 1m2f7y event has attracted many high status entries and Cogito is highly unlikely to be a part of the final line-up. Jamie McCalmont, racing manager to Cogito's owner Paul Reddam, stated: "I'd say at the moment it's unlikely he'll run with all the rain that's around."
Bred by Lazy Lane Farms Inc, the Reddam Racing Llc-owned was mighty impressive on his Sandown debut in May. On good to firm, the novice took keen hold early on, which helped him inflicting tremendous amount of pressure on the rest of the pack.
Although he held up in midfield, an excellent effort in the final stages guided him to the glory in the hands of Frankie Dettori. Stipulate appeared with a serious challenge in the final moments, but Meehan’s charge retained his advantage to seal the victory by a neck’s distance.
Cogito stormed to the limelight following an amazing debut success. In the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes at Newmarket, the juvenile did a fantastic job to ensure the top rank by 2¾ lengths. Cogito is a fabulous finisher and he proved this ability in his opening two appearances.
After two brilliant triumphs, the son of Giant´s Causeway stepped up to the highest level, but failed terribly at Royal Ascot. In the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes, he was one of the many runners to be hampered and as a result, could only finish eighth on the chart.
Cogito likes good ground and Sandown’s soft surface will be highly unsuitable for him. However, his absence from the big event is going to be a huge setback for the horseracing fans.
