Question:

Coil Drain Pan Issue?

I just had to have some duct work replaced due to rust caused from a coil drain pan that is angled improperly. The water that collects in the pan runs away from the hole due to settling of the furnace over time. How can I re-angle or re-situate the drain pan so that the water runs toward the drain pan hole rather than running out onto the duct work? If possible, I need to do this without removing the coil.

  1. There are a number of ways to do it.I wish I could see what you had.You will have to,at the very least, have someone lift the coil straight up while you shim up the pan.It only takes a tiny pitch to facilitate drainage.

  2. HVAC Tech.:  You can accomplish this by jacking up the side away from the drain port and blocking up under the frame of the coil. Be careful to floor off under the area with ply wood before you start jacking it up. Many attics have no flooring for you to stand on either, so take care not to fall through yourself
